- Stay window · 180 days (rolling)
The EU lists Sweden among the Schengen area countries, and says EU nationals have the right to travel freely there. Under Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, nationals of the countries in its Annex II are exempt from the visa requirement for stays of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period, and nationals of the countries in Annex I must hold a visa; the Schengen Visa Code sets the visa fee at EUR 90. The Swedish Migration Agency says applications go to a Swedish embassy or consulate-general, or in some countries to another Schengen country representing Sweden. The EU says ETIAS is currently not in operation.
- Passport validity
- The Swedish Migration Agency says visitors who do not need a visa must have a passport valid for at least three months after they plan to leave the Schengen area; for visa applicants it must be valid for at least three months after the visa expires, have been issued within the past ten years and have at least two blank pages.
- Blank passport pages
- At least 2 blank passport pages.
- Travel insurance
- Under the Schengen Visa Code, visa applicants must hold travel medical insurance valid throughout the territory of the Member States and covering the entire period of the intended stay; the minimum coverage is EUR 30,000. The Swedish Migration Agency recommends that visitors who do not need a visa also have individual medical travel insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 and valid in all Schengen countries.
- Return or onward ticket
- The Swedish Migration Agency says visitors who do not need a visa must still have a valid round-trip ticket with a return journey within 90 days, and a written invitation from the family member or friend they will stay with or a hotel booking confirmation; the border police check this before they enter Sweden.
