    FAQ: visa-on-arrival

    Before
Can I get a Mozambique visa on arrival? / Sometimes. Mozambique's border visa allows two entries and 30 days, cannot be extended, and, according to Canada's travel advice, can be paid by card or in accepted currencies (no official source publishes the amount), but the migration service issues it mainly to nationals of countries where Mozambique has no embassy or consulate, or on reciprocity. Applying in advance through evisa.gov.mz is the safer route, especially if you arrive at a small crossing.
    After
Can I get a Mozambique visa on arrival? / Only in limited cases. The migration service's visa rules provide a border visa, valid for two entries and 30 days and not extendable, for nationals of countries where Mozambique has no embassy or consulate, or on reciprocity. The official eVisa portal does not offer a visa on arrival: it sorts nationalities into visa-exempt, eTA, eVisa and embassy-only, and tells travellers to carry the printed approval for boarding and arrival. Apply before you travel.

    FAQ: border-fee

    Before
What is the border fee for visa-free visitors? / Visa-exempt tourists under the 2023 scheme pay a MZN 650 processing fee (about USD 10). Decree 10/2023 sets it as payable when pre-registering at evisa.gov.mz at least 48 hours before boarding, so register and pay online before you fly. Mozambique's High Commission in London describes it as paid on arrival, so carry some cash too — meticais, dollars or rand are normally accepted.
    After
Is there a fee for the eTA? / Decree 10/2023, which exempted citizens of about 30 countries from the visa, sets a MZN 650 processing fee, payable when pre-registering at evisa.gov.mz at least 48 hours before boarding; the portal now lists these countries under the eTA scheme. Mozambique's High Commission in London describes the fee as paid on arrival. The UK Foreign Office says British travellers also pay a USD 37 visa fee (about USD 47 in total), online. The portal itself does not publish the eTA fee, so check the amount when you apply.

    FAQ: need-visa

    Before
Do I need a visa for Mozambique? / Many tourists no longer need a visa. SADC citizens enter free, and under a 2023 decree citizens of about 30 major tourism-source countries — including the US, Portugal and most of Western Europe — enter visa-free for up to 30 days. British and Canadian citizens must first obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online. Most others can get a simplified tourist visa at the border or apply online at evisa.gov.mz, but citizens of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia cannot use the eVisa portal and must apply at a Mozambican embassy.
    After
Do I need a visa for Mozambique? / It depends on your passport. Mozambique's official eVisa portal (evisa.gov.mz) lists 17 nationalities, mostly from southern and eastern Africa, as visa-exempt for 30 or 90 days. Citizens of 29 countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Portugal and most of Western Europe, need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before travel, for stays of up to 30 days. Citizens of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia cannot use the portal and must apply at a Mozambican embassy. Everyone else applies online for an eVisa before travelling.
