    bestTimeToVisit

    Before
April–May and September–October offer the most comfortable weather across most of the country; summer is hot and rainy, and northern winters are harsh.
    After
No official source we could read gives a best time to visit China. The UK Foreign Office says the typhoon season normally runs from May to November, affecting southern and eastern coastal regions, and that flooding and storms are common in those months.
  7. China

    payments

    Before
Mobile payment via Alipay and WeChat Pay dominates — both now let foreign visitors link international Visa/Mastercard cards, which is the single most useful thing to set up before arrival. Foreign cards are rarely accepted directly at the point of sale, and cash acceptance is patchy outside banks and larger shops.
    After
The UK Foreign Office says cashless payments through apps such as WeChat or Alipay are almost universal, and that outside major cities credit cards are not always accepted and ATMs are limited. Canada's travel advice says these platforms let foreign travellers link an international credit card, that international cards are accepted in many hotels and larger establishments but not universally, and that using foreign currency for everyday transactions is illegal.
  8. Chile

    Tip

    Before
Chile is over 4,000 km long. Santiago to Punta Arenas is a four-hour flight, and the Atacama and Patagonia are effectively different trips. Plan domestic flights rather than buses for the long legs.
    After

  9. Chile

    Tip

    Before
Foreign visitors are exempt from Chile's 19% VAT on hotel stays when paying in US dollars with a foreign card or cash. Present your passport and electronic TUM at check-in. Many hotels will not apply it unless you ask.
    After

  10. Chile

    Customs notes

    Before
Chile's agricultural border controls are among the strictest anywhere: no fresh fruit, vegetables, seeds, honey, meat, dairy or untreated wood, including items bought in the airport of departure.
    After
Chilean law requires every traveller to declare under oath, on the SAG form, any plants, animals, products of plant or animal origin (including handicrafts), agricultural chemicals or animal feed they bring in. Inspectors of the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) check them whatever the quantity, destroy what does not meet the rules, and failing to declare risk products leads to sanctions and fines.

  20. Central African Republic

    FAQ answer

    Before
No — most governments advise against all travel. Armed groups remain active across much of the country and the security situation can deteriorate quickly, including in Bangui. The few travelers who visit Dzanga-Sangha do so on fully organized trips with security arrangements.
    After
No. The UK FCDO advises against all travel outside Bangui and all but essential travel to Bangui, and Australia advises against all travel. Both say armed groups remain active and that violence can break out without warning, including in Bangui.
  21. Central African Republic

    Tip

    Before
Bring all the money you will need in cash (CFA francs or euros to exchange). Cards and ATMs cannot be relied on anywhere in the country.
    After
Bring the money you will need in cash. The UK FCDO says there are very few ATMs and most places, including hotels, do not accept international cards; Canada says currency can be exchanged only in Bangui and Berbérati.
  22. Central African Republic

    Tip

    Before
The one destination that draws travelers — Dzanga-Sangha's lowland gorillas and forest elephants — is only realistically visited on a fully organized trip via the park's official operators, usually entering through Bangui.
    After
    (removed)
  23. Central African Republic

    Tip

    Before
Check your government's travel advice before even planning a trip — most currently advise against all travel to the Central African Republic, and insurance policies are often void in do-not-travel zones.
    After
The UK FCDO advises against all travel to the Central African Republic except Bangui, and against all but essential travel to Bangui; Australia advises against all travel. The FCDO warns that travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against its advice.
  24. Central African Republic

    Customs note

    Before
Photography of government buildings, airports and anything military is forbidden without a permit.
    After
The UK FCDO says you often need permission to take photos in public places, and that photographing government property, uniformed officers or military installations and personnel can get you detained, fined and your camera confiscated.
  25. Central African Republic

    Customs note

    Before
Export of rough diamonds, gold and other minerals without a license is strictly prohibited.
    After
The UK FCDO says it is only legal to buy diamonds or precious stones through government-authorised agents.
