Visa requirement (notes)
- Before
- Apply for a visa at a Lebanese embassy or consulate before travel — approval requirements vary by nationality.
- After
- Ivorian citizens need prior approval from General Security, or a visa from a Lebanese embassy, before travel. General Security's list also names this nationality among those given a one-month visa on showing a return ticket, accommodation and US$2,000, but its visa-types page names Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast as countries that require pre-approval, and the stricter rule is shown here.

FAQ: extending a stay
- Before
- Yes — 30-day tourist visas can be extended, typically by up to 30 additional days, at the immigration office in Vientiane or through local travel agents for a per-day fee. Overstays are fined per day on departure.
- After
- Yes. Tourist visas can be extended at most twice per arrival, for a total of up to 60 additional days, at the Department of Immigration in Vientiane or a provincial immigration office. Apply at least 3 days before your stay expires; the fee is 20,000 kip per day plus 40,000 kip per application, and it takes 1-2 business days. Visa-exempt stays cannot normally be extended. Overstays are fined per day on departure.

FAQ: eVisa or visa on arrival
- Before
- Both give a 30-day single-entry tourist stay. The eVisa (USD 50, about three business days online) skips the arrival line but is accepted only at designated checkpoints; the visa on arrival (USD 40 in cash for most nationalities, plus a photo) is available at all major airports and border crossings.
- After
- Both give a 30-day single-entry tourist stay. The eVisa (USD 50, about three business days online) skips the arrival line but is accepted only at designated checkpoints; the visa on arrival is paid in cash at the border, with a passport photo, and is available at all major airports and border crossings. No official page publishes its fee.

Laos
Currency declaration
- Before
- Foreign currency above roughly the equivalent of USD 10,000 should be declared on arrival, and Lao kip may not be taken out of the country. Confirm current rules before carrying large sums.
- After
- No official Lao source we could read publishes a cash-declaration threshold or the rules on taking kip out of the country. Declare large sums on arrival and ask Lao Customs before carrying them.

Laos
Arrival and departure card
- Before
- Arrival and departure card: Complete the paper arrival/departure card handed out on the plane or at the border, and keep the departure portion in your passport until you leave.
- After
- Lao Digital Immigration Form (LDIF): Since 1 September 2025, every foreign national entering or leaving through Wattay International Airport (Vientiane), Luang Prabang International Airport, Pakse International Airport or the first Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge must register on the Lao Digital Immigration Form at immigration.gov.la within 3 days before arrival and again before departure. At those four checkpoints it replaces the paper arrival and departure cards; at other crossings, fill in the paper card.

Proof of funds
- Before
- No fixed amount is published; border officers rarely ask tourists to show funds.
- After
- No official Lao source publishes a proof-of-funds requirement or amount for tourists.
-
Laos
Onward ticket
- Before
- Not routinely checked at the border, though airlines may ask for proof of onward travel and eVisa applications require accommodation details.
- After
- No official Lao source publishes an onward-ticket requirement. Airlines may still ask for proof of onward travel.
-
Laos
Travel insurance
- Before
- Not required for entry, but strongly recommended — medical facilities are limited and serious cases are usually evacuated to Thailand.
- After
- No official source makes insurance a condition of entry. The UK government advises adequate travel health insurance: medical care is basic, there are no reliable facilities for emergencies outside Vientiane, and medical evacuation is difficult to organise and very expensive.
