  13. Nicaragua

    Nicaragua safety summary

    Before
Violent crime against tourists is uncommon by regional standards, but the political situation since 2018 has made Nicaragua unpredictable: protests are banned, police may stop and question foreigners, and travelers have been denied entry or expelled over social-media posts or NGO links. Several governments advise reconsidering non-essential travel.
    After
Political activity is the main risk for visitors: it is illegal for foreigners to take part in any political activity, and joining a protest, attending political meetings or campaigns, or using the national blue-and-white colours in a campaign can lead to arrest, detention or deportation. Violent crime does affect foreign nationals, including attacks on people in vehicles and 'express kidnapping' in unauthorised taxis, so use radio-dispatched or red-plate authorised taxis and avoid markets and bus stations on foot after dark.
  14. Nicaragua

  15. Nicaragua

  16. Nauru

    Nauru safety summary

    Before
Violent crime is uncommon and the island is small enough that visitors are quickly known, but petty theft occurs, alcohol-related trouble happens at night, and medical facilities are very limited. Photography near government buildings and the former regional processing center is sensitive.
    After
The crime rate is low, though petty crime such as pickpocketing and bag snatching can occur. Tourist facilities are extremely limited, medical facilities are limited and evacuation is expensive, beaches are unsupervised with strong currents and riptides, and there are no taxis or public transport.
