FAQ: Do I need a visa?

- Cabo Verde's government lists the countries whose citizens are exempt from a visa, with the maximum stay for each: among them the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, China and France for 30 days, Senegal and Nigeria for 90 days, and Guinea-Bissau for 180 days. Cabo Verde's law on foreigners, as republished in 2023, says that to enter the national territory foreigners must hold a valid visa suited to the purpose of the journey, unless exempt, and that visas may be granted abroad by embassies and consular posts and in the national territory by the DEF. Its EASE portal says that from 1 January 2026 nationals of the countries on its visa-required list must obtain an entry visa, and a transit or airport stopover visa, before arrival, contacting the nearest Cabo Verde embassy. The fee schedule sets CVE 5,000 for a tourist visa granted on arrival at a border post, or CVE 2,500 for one requested on the EASE pre-registration platform, but no official page we could read names the nationalities that may get one. The government says citizens of exempt countries must pre-register on EASE before travelling.

- Ukraine is a party to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (UN Treaty Collection). Ukraine's Regulation on issuing driving licences (Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 340 of 8 May 1993, paragraph 30) says persons temporarily staying in Ukraine may drive with a foreign driving licence that meets the requirements of the 1968 Convention on Road Traffic and whose entries are made or duplicated in Latin letters, or with an international driving permit together with a foreign licence that does not meet those requirements. The UK government says you must have a 1968 international driving permit (IDP) as well as your UK driving licence to drive in Ukraine, that the 1949 IDP is not accepted any more, and that it is illegal to drive with any alcohol content in your blood. Canada's travel advice says you must carry an international driving permit and that there is zero tolerance for driving under the influence of alcohol. No official source we could read states for how long a foreign licence may be used.
