FAQ: Do I need a visa
- Before
- If you are from one of the roughly 100 visa-exempt countries — the EU, US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of Latin America and others — you do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days, but you must obtain an ETA-IL electronic travel authorization online before boarding. Most other nationalities need a B/2 visitor visa from an Israeli embassy or consulate; citizens of Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Syria and Yemen are not admitted except with rare individual permission, and ordinary tourism is effectively closed to Afghan, Pakistani, Saudi, Somali and Sudanese passport holders.

FAQ: Can Israeli citizens visit Iraq?
- Before
- No. Israeli passport holders are not admitted to Iraq. Australia's Smartraveller says the authorities may also refuse entry if your passport contains Israeli stamps or visas.
- After
- No official source we could read states Iraq's rule for Israeli passport holders. Canada's travel advice says travellers whose passport contains an Israeli visa or border stamp face additional screening before an Iraqi visa is issued; this does not apply to travel to the Kurdistan Region.

FAQ: Do I need a visa for Iraq?
- Before
- Yes. Iraq no longer issues visit visas on arrival: the UK, Canadian and Australian governments all say you must get a visa before you travel, usually the e-Visa on Iraq's official portal (evisa.iq). The FCDO gives the fee as USD 160 and the validity as 60 days; Iraq's portal says 30 days, so plan on 30. Apply at least 24 hours before departure — airlines check for the visa before boarding. Nationalities not eligible for the e-Visa apply at an Iraqi embassy. Turkey's foreign ministry says Turkish citizens under 15 or over 50 are visa-exempt for 30 days. No Iraqi official source we could read states the rule for Iranian citizens; Iran's Foreign Ministry says Iranian pilgrims need no visa.

Tip: Kurdistan Region visa
- Before
- The Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah) issues its own e-Visa, online or on arrival for many nationalities, but it is valid in the Kurdistan Region ONLY. Travelling from Erbil to Baghdad or Mosul requires a federal Iraqi e-Visa; decide which you need before you fly.
- After
- The Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah) issues its own e-Visa, online or on arrival for citizens on its Country List A, but it is valid in the Kurdistan Region ONLY. Canada's travel advice says travel to other regions of Iraq needs a separate Iraqi visa; decide which you need before you fly.
